I recently discovered the Old Time Radio Research Group (aka OTRR Group), a band of old time radio enthusiasts that maintain what they describe as the most accurate archive of OTR series in the world.
Which is quite the thing – and in these evenings, while Italy was being besieged by the San Remo Music Festival, I slipped back into the past thanks to a pretty fun radio series from 1932, called World Adventurers Club. Continue reading

Today is the 27th anniversary of Ava Gardner’s death.
One of the most beautiful women to grace the silver screen, she was a star in noir and historical movies, including the epic 55 Days in Peking, and in one of my guilty pleasures, Mogambo.
She also played Venus, in a perfect casting choice.
So here is a small gallery of pictures of Ava.
My goodness, was she beautiful.
And smart, and funny.
On the 16th of January 1942, the plane carrying home Carole Lombard – who had been on a fund-raiser drive for the war effort – crashed southwest of Las Vegas. No one survived.
