This December is flying by at an incredible speed. It’s the 7th already, and I’ve tons of stuff to do and not enough energy to comb my hair.
So I’ve taken a day off, with tea and biscuits, and watched a few episodes of the old 1980s Hammer House of Horror TV series.
A few weeks back a guy I know described me as “the epitome of the classic nerd living in the past”, and of course he can go and, in the immortal words of one John Ono Lennon, “forever hold his penis.”
I do not make much difference between new and old, and you won’t catch me saying something’s good because it’s new, or it’s good because it’s old, or other such rubbish. I subscribe to my poor mom’s old statement: “If you’ve never seen it/read it, then it’s new. Enjoy it.”
I had missed the Hammer TV series when it first came out, catching only a few episodes much later. Now a selection can be found on Youtube, and it’s kinda strange, sitting here in this old dark house in the countryside, watching gruesome events taking place in old dark houses in the countryside.
But I can file it under “research” for my planned folk horror story, and come on, the first episode I caught – that is pretty folk horror-ish – featured Jon Finch (that portrayed Jerry Cornelius on film) and Patricia Quinn (of Rocky Horror Picture Show fame).
Is there a better way to start the weekend?
And in case you’re interested…
