I’m stealing a leaf from Barry Reese here*.
In yesterday’s post on his blog, Mr Reese posted the first two episode of the old 1964 Hanna & Barbera series, Johnny Quest – and he sent me down memory lane, big time.
So I dug around the web, and found out a 2 hours 20 minutes documentary on that old series that enthralled me as a kid.
The thing is available in small installments on YouTube.
And it’s great.
And I’m posting the link here.
Check out the history of the series, dig the way cool music, marvel at the ideas and art.
Then go and look for the original episodes on YouTube.
To a kid of seven or eight, sitting in front of a black and white TV in the shadow of the FIAT smokestacks, ten-years-old series Johnny Quest had it all…
- action
- adventure
- exotic locales
- super-science
- a touch of the supernatural
If I’m writing what I’m writing today, this early influence cannot be discounted.
It was sort of an imprinting.
This, too, is part of how I bacame a hack.
Cheers!

I do not know if you are familiar with it, but a modern show like Secret Saturdays carries the JQ torch (sadly, only two DVDs are available).
