Party with the Thin Man

And as Dave’s my name, I usually have a small celebration – one of my favorite dishes for lunch (I’m the one taking care of the cooking anyway), maybe a few hours spent watching a movie, and a small gift.

Listen to the radio. Any radio. Now!

I tend to reminisce a lot here on Karavansara, these days, which is not cool, because I’m a fan of the future, and as the poet said, the past is something that never got in my way.
Who knows, maybe it’s the winter, the cold, the darkness.
But there is still room for the future, even when I reminisce.

Fact – just like Journey, I was raised on radio. Back when I was a wee lad, TV was something you turned on at 5 pm to watch Scooby Doo and then The Avengers or The Saint, or I Spy. You get the picture.
Throughout the day, doing my homeworks, reading my books or playing, there was this constant background of radio transmissions, because my mother would keep the radio on for company while doing her chores.

Mars and details

I’ve been spending some time on Mars, recently.
Not only did I take part in the How to Survive on Mars course by Monash University – which was lots of fun – but I’ve been reading about the Red Planet in order to write a story (due in two weeks) for an Italian anthology. They mentioned the wrd contract, which is good, and the editor in chief is an old friend, so I said yes. They’ve been vague enough in their guidelines, so I decided to go and hit them with a Martian story.
It will be hard SF, uncompromisingly optimist. My way of optimism, the one that says that problems exist, and we must work hard to solve them. They will probably reject it, but it’s a risk I’m ready to take.

But the problem right now is, I’ve a wonderful setting, but I have no story. Continue reading
