Today I’d like to remember Earl Norem, who passed away yesterday.
Norem was a great artist and master illustrator, and he worked both in the late pulp/men’s adventure magazine field and in the comic books industry.
Below, a selection of black and white interior illustrations by Norem, showing his hand, his control over dynamics, his composition skills.
He will be sorely missed.
I’m sort of in a piratical mood, these days, and here’s a fine performance by the great Tim Curry, in the role of the Pirate King from Gilbert & Sullivan‘s Pirates of Penzance.

While I’m quite familiar with the classic Roger Moore TV series, I just found out that no less than Vincent Price played the role of Simon Templar on the radio.
And indeed the witty tone of Price suits quite nicely the character.

I know, terribly rough and uncultured of me.
I guess I’ll never make it in polite society.
And the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the Marx Brothers.
I was ten years old when I first saw this – and it marked me for life.
