Considering the success of last week’s post about Holmes, and the sudden appearance of so many Sherlockians on my blog, I decided to put together a small gallery of famous – or not so famous – Holmes from the big and the small screen, like the one I did for Philip Marlowe a while back.

See if you can recognise them all.
Anyone I forgot? Please let me know in the comments.
And as you are at it – one of them is not Holmes, but it’s actually his brother. Can you spot him? Give your answer in the comments.
SHH-FP-010 ROBERT DOWNEY JR. as Sherlock Holmes in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ action-adventure mystery “Sherlock Holmes,” distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Ian Richardson played Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles (1983) and in The Sign of Four (1983).

I might have missed him but have you got Matt Frewer there? He played Sherlock Holmes in a couple of TV movies and was, IMHO, absolutely dreadful at it.

I think I missed him and I never saw the movies you mention (maybe I was lucky) – I’ll look him up and add him to the gallery for completeness’ sake.

You were definitely lucky to miss them. You got the most important one – the wonderful Jeremy Brett 🙂

While I am still a Basil Rathbone fan, the Brett Holmes is the definitive take on the character. I have the whole series here in DVD.

OK I’m being a pain now but have you got Richard Roxburgh? He played Holmes in a one-off to film of The Hound of the Baskervilles. It may have only been shown in the U.K.. He wasn’t too bad. No Jeremy Brett though …
