At the movies for Christmas

Back when I was a kid, Christmas meant a night at the movies, or a night at the circus.
Now circuses are out of fashion, but movies are still all-right.

The only problem is, here where I live, there’s only two cinemas, and they are showing the latest Hollywood blockbuster (you know, the new Star Wars movie) and one of the stupid stupid stupid comedies that are the only thing that gets produced in Italy for the festive season.

But thank goodness there’s the web.

So, courtesy of the Open Culture website, here’s a list of movies you can see for free on the web.
It’s a huge list – we’re talking 750 films.
Including classics, forgotten pictures, sword & sandal epics, westerns, martial arts flicks, foreign movies… there’s also a selection of silent movies that will probably please my friend Claire.
And documentaries, too!

So, if you, like me, like to watch a good movie on Christmas, and are lost in the wilderness somewhere, just go for an online feature.

One non free (but cheap) alternative if you are interested in off-the-wall movies is fandor.com. It works like Netflix, is well curated, and the selection is a mixture of the sublime and unwatchable.

Let me know if you can access it…. it actually let me sign up and I assumed that using a VPN I could pay and watch, but as of today it is not letting me play the movies…
