Yes, I know, I am cheating. But today is the day when I lay down the foundation of the next four or five days of frantic writing and editing, and so I am calling it Zero.
So sue me.
What I did this morning, was jotting down the notes for my story
- Concept
- Background
- Set-up
- Outline
- Character Profiles
As I mentioned in a previous post, I had a number of viable ideas for this one, but in the end – and despite some very sound suggestions from my Patrons (Thank you!) – I decided to go with a science fiction story, a proper space adventure.
This adds a few complications – lots of explaining to do – but comes with a fundamental extra: I’ll have fun writing it, and considering I’ll be spending 12 hours a day for the next four days writing, keeping it fun is essential.
So, right now I have a cast of a dozen characters, notes on the universe, enough background to keep me going, and even a reference picture, by artist John Harris (that I’d love to use as cover, but I can’t, of course). Here it is…

I will keep it hard-ish but without getting in deep with the science and tech side of things – this should make for a faster going
And now here I am: I have a working title – Orbits – and I have the afternoon to start writing, starting with fleshing out the characters.
And as usual, you can buy me a coffee to help me going.
What could ever go wrong?
(of course my Patrons will get a lot more information – like, access to my full notes, with comments – but hey, they are my Patrons, right?)
