ellisonI could justify the delay in the completion of the final episode of AMARNA with some tear-jerker story about how shattered I was at the news of Harlan Ellison’s death.
And indeed, it felt like being punched in the face. Harlan Ellison looked like the kind of guy that would shrug off an inconvenience like dying.
I could make excuses about the fact that I had to work on two translations on whose sale hinges my ability to pay my mortgage.
That, and an article about Journey, the band.
I could simply claim that my PC fizzed as I was trying to update to Ubuntu 18.04, and I lost everything but my way home.

The fact is, I am still 8000-words short of the ending, and I have spent the whole day so far writing something else (distant peal of thunder).
There! Now you have it, what disgustingly undisciplined slob I am!
And I dare call myself a professional? Ah, I should be dragged on the Red Square and shot in the back as an enemy of the Revolution!

marsBut really, I spent the day writing something else.
I wrote the first 1000 words of a novella called Counterspinward, that was originally called Martian Roulette when it was just an outline. I woke up this morning with the first scene firmly lodged in my brain, and so I sat down and wrote it and it’s 1000 words and it works just fine.
Now all I have to do is write the remaining 20.000 words, and then I will submit it to Tor.com.
Because it’s time to try and play the major league, and opportunities cannot be missed.

Then, I went on expanding my faux-Lamb vignette, and stretched it to 2000 words before I decided that 1000 of those were worthless rubbish and I deleted them.
Then I had lunch.
During lunch I worked on a pitch for a three-novels series.
Then I worked a little on AMARNA, wrote a post for my Italian blog, landed a paid gig for a lecture about Harlan Ellison, helped my brother mind map his latest Android project, and then watched Shatterday, that is an old episode of the Twilight Zone (new series), directed by Wes Craven, starring Bruce Willis, and based on the Harlan Ellison story of the same name.
Here, take a look at it…

And now I am writing this post.
What will I do next?
Anything, to avoid the inevitable, finally nailing shut AMARNA.
My, I am really a hopeless schmuck.
