And so I did it – I just pitched a story to a big, highly respected American publisher.
The pitch is for a pulp adventure story .
I will not disclose too much, but the proposed story features the Silk Road, a few (mostly dead) dinosaurs, raiders, madmen, and assorted historical weirdness.
And some (hopefully!) not-so-cliché characters.
Having spent years collecting historical facts and assorted informations about the Silk Road and the Silk Road countries, building the setting and the background should be easy – and fun.
The open call for submissions was just too good to ignore, and all things considered I think it’s high time I leave my submission-shyness behind and start pitching my stuff.
What’s the worst that could happen?
That my submissions get ditched?
OK, it’s all part of the learning process.
The only way to get read is getting my stuff out there.
And all things considered, seeing what my home market is offering, I can’t but recall the words of Steely Dan
any world that I’m welcome to
is better than the one I come from
Writing this one might be a happy adventure – it’s a genre I love, and a story set in an area (you might have guessed it) I have been reading (and writing!) about forever.
Double the fun, if you will.
So, the mail’s been sent.
Now I’ll sit here quietly, playing nervously with a coin, until I get a reply.
Wish me luck.
