Ok, it went like this – I was wasting time yesterday morning, on Facebook, having a friendly chat with some author/publisher friends, here in the old C Block of the Italian Blogsphere.
We were talking original ideas, imitation as tribute and nuisance, and all those things, while each one of us was having breakfast at home (isn’t this web-thingie just great?)
Anyway, we were chatting away and sipping cappuccinos, and I really don’t know how it happened, honest, but one thing led to another, and…
So I bet the guys I can write a fantasy novelette in a weekend, and self-publish it on Amazon Kindle in less than a week.
And not only that!
Being an overconfident fool, I bet I can write a novelette that will be the first in a series, featuring a new setting and a new character.
And yes, this is stupid.
I mean, it’s the weekend, it’s summer, there’s 40+ degrees and 90% humidity, I have two deadlines approaching…
Ah!
But anyway – I outlined the story in one hour, and nailed the opening scene soon after lunch.
As you’re reading this, I’m hammering away at my story.
I already have contracted a few beta-readers, and have people looking into a possible cover image designed to work in case of serialization…
So, yes, I’m doing it – and it’s great fun.
The main problem is – for some strange reason, in my brain (or what’s left of it)ย I “hear” the story in English, not in Italian – and my bet specifies that my story has to be in Italian.
But who knows, I might then do an English-language version, maybe a collection should more stories take shape.
The new story’s going to be a sword & sandal number, but very very different from Aculeo & Amunet.
I will not anticipate anything about the plot or the setting.
For the time being, I can only give you the picture that I’m using as the basis for my heroine.
More news will follow.

Wow, she’s lovely! I can’t wait to read her! ๐
Too bad I couldn’t volunteer as a beta-reader, maybe next time…
Happy writing! ๐

I think you bet it because somewhere in your mind you had such a story going and the story wants to come out, you know how it works. ๐
I’m sure you’ll do it and I can’t wait to read your story!!
So keep writing in spite of the summer heat! ๐

I loved the warrior so much, looked for her and I found her name should be :
(Lady War) Penthesilea the Valiant
The author should be Tsuyoshi Nagano.
But you know the web is tricky…
You can see here:

There are a lot of others wonderful pictures by this author!! ๐

Interestingly enough, Penthesilea was one of the names I considered for my character (together with Atalanta).
Thanks for the info!
