Sunshine Blogger Award

So I got nominated for a Sunshine Blogger Award.
And already I hear you say, Man, this is Karavansara, we’re all adventurers and swashbucklers here!
This blog once got a Boomstick Award!
What’s a Sunshine Award? Some kind of touchy-feely new-agey thingie?

But Jessica Bakkers, the freelance writer that owns the eponymous blog (), did nominate me and Karavansara, and I’m quite happy with it. So here I will try to follow the rules and do my part – once again thanking Jessica for her kindness.
So…

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

How Does It Work:

Thank the person(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog
Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you
Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog

Easy – even if I will have to rack my mind to find 11 blogs here in this neck in the woods.

So, first part… Jessica’s eleven questions

1 . What animal are you and why?
To quote the poet

2 . Give me a secret no-one else knows.
You can win eternal friendship from a hedgehog by pouring him (or her) a few drops of brandy. The little critters love it.
Or did you mean a secret about me?

3 . What’s your day job?
Ah, the sad bit – I am an unemployed palaeontologist and geologist, so strictly speaking I don’t have a day job. I’m paying my bills (barely) by writing, translating, editing, and doing odd jobs. Very odd jobs. It’s pretty stressful, but I’m sure one day we’ll think about these days and we’ll laugh.
We’ll be the soul of the party at the homeless shelter.

4 . Self-publish or traditional? Why?
Both, actually – I’m what they call a hybrid author.
I like working with publishers I respect: they provide support and a sounding board for my ideas and are an excellent showcase. And they pay me! And I also as content-provider for a number of blogs and webzines. But I also like self-publishing – the editing and revision and finding a cover and all that. Lives me a lot of manoeuvring space to experiment.
I find the hybrid status quite comfortable, at the moment.

5 . Favourite song (or music type).
I love music, and it’s hard to single out a single song.
I like jazz, rock and pop, and some classical music. Plus various odds and ends.
I like songs that tell stories.
And right now, this one, because it talks about what being a writer is like…

6 . Who do you look up to in the world?
Another hard one.
I admire and respect my brother, one of the hardest-working and kindest people I know.
And I was lucky enough to meet a lot of great people and, hopefully, learn a bit from each one (or try to!)

7 . What’s your greatest fear?
Death? Possibly – but it’s not really fear, it’s more being pissed off at the idea of not seeing what will come next.

Barring death, I’m mortally afraid of stupid people – because as the saying goes hereabouts, a stupid person’s much worse than an evil one.

8 . Are you happy with your life?
It could be a lot better but, apparently, I am up to the challenge (barely), so yes, I am happy with my life, and I hope it will improve.
And last a long long time.

9 . Chocolate or cheese?
Most certainly chocolate, any type as long as it does have nuts in it.

10 . Why do you blog?
It’s an exercise in writing and discipline, a good way to connect with interesting people, and it allows me to imagine myself as a host on a late-nite talk-radio show, and the comments are the calls from my listeners.

… wait, where’s question number eleven? Oh, drat!

But if nothing else, the missing question is to me a good excuse to list as few or as many blogs as I like.

So here goes the second part – my nominations.

… and I’ll stop here.
These are swell guys (and gals) writing great blogs about a number of topics and making the web a better place – check them out.
And I don’t know if they will like this, or be embarrassed, or what, but here are the

eleven questions I’ve got for them

  1. Don’t you hate these games in which you have to answer weird question from strange people?
  2. Let’s order dinner: Pizza, Chinese or Kebab?
  3. What book are you reading these days?
  4. The best made-up rumour you ever heard about yourself?
  5. It’s late night and you can’t sleep – what movie do you watch?
  6. And talking about night – are you a late night person or an early morning person?
  7. What’s the best part of writing a blog?
  8. What’s the worst part of writing a blog?
  9. Traditional western or Spaghetti western?
  10. The song you want as the title track in the movie of your life?
  11. Your favourite year, and why?

And this is really it.
Thank you for your attention.
Cheers!
